the flag adopted by the Australian Aboriginal people; first flown at land rights demonstrations in the 1970s.
The top half of the flag is black, representing Aboriginal people, the bottom half red, representing the earth, with a large yellow circle in the centre representing the sun. It was designed by Harold Thomas, an Arrernte elder, in 1971.
